About Dan

Dan Mager, MSW, LCSW, is the author of Some Assembly Required: A Balanced Approach to Recovery From Addiction and Chronic Pain and Roots and Wings: Mindful Parenting in Recovery. He also writes for PsychologyToday.com where more than 140 of his articles have been published. He is a Licensed Clinicale Social Worker in Nevada, as well as a Certified Diplomate in Clinical Hypnotherapy with the National Board of Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. He received his MSW from the Hunter College of the City University of New York, School of Social Work, and a BA with Honors in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Dan has 25 years of post-Master’s experience as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and clinical director in a wide range of behavioral health and addiction treatment settings. Moreover, he has over 10 years of experience ghostwriting and editing wellness-related books for the general public and professional community, as well as, developing & writing solution-oriented skills-building materials in the form of guidebooks, workbooks, and curricula for clinical purposes/treatment programs, and the recovery community.

Dan has been practicing meditation for 45 years (literally!) and has been practicing various other forms of mindfulness for more than two decades. He brings a deep commitment to solution-focused approaches that enhance the capacity of people to move toward health and wholeness by living more mindfully, with greater mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual balance.

Dan’s professional experience as an author, psychotherapist, editor, coach, speaker, and consultant combines with his personal experience as a parent, partner, avid hiker, and person in long-term recovery to bring his work to life with practical expertise and present-centered engagement.
